you'll notice all my old posts are gone.
I realized that it had been nearly five years since I'd posted anything,
and what I had posted was a mish-mash of writing news, politics, and family
stuff. After the long hiatus, I figured
it would be best to reboot the whole thing and focus specifically on writing
news.

Soooo...why Resonance for my blog's name? Well, first of all, I'm a chemist. I'm particularly fond of bonding theory, and I
find resonance structures (and the bond delocalization they imply) fascinating. That, and the terror of watching my p-chem professor cram a discussion of the bonding and antibonding resonance states of the benzene molecule into the last fifteen minutes of the semester will be burned into my memory forever.

Also, I like to use resonance in my stories,
where layers of meaning reinforce each other.
In my story "Contamination," the title ostensibly refers to
the risk of contaminating an alien ecosystem by landing on a new planet. But the characters also face the specter of
cultural contamination as a new wave of colonists clashes with those who have
been there for a generation. And then
the main character faces the threat of radioactive contamination on a space mission. Ideally, each of the sub-themes resonates
with and reinforces the primary theme of contamination.

I admit I'm not the best at updating my blog regularly. If I'm going to be writing, I want to work on
my fiction! But I'll make an effort to
update the blog as new stories become available and as reprints show up. There are several in the pipeline, including
my first story with a co-author, which was loads of fun to brainstorm and
write. And of course I've been trying my
hand at novel-length work lately, and there will be news on that front sometime
soon.
